Week 13 For this week, in tutorial class, we were taught about Basic Principle of Graphics (Prinsip Asas Grafik). Although it has been taught in one of the lectures, Dr. Fariza was very concerned of us and decided to refresh our memories. Graphic is not solely about pictures, and I learned that, typography is also considered as graphics. As long as it is an artistic work, it can be considered as graphics.
For this week lecture, it was the last lecture and I was really going to miss this wonderful lecture (although I had a hard time waking up, hehe!). Today, we learned about electronic media and non-electronic media with Mejar Jasmy. He showed us many interesting videos. Overall, I learned that: (1) although we are in the midst of technology, there are times where non-electronic media work best and cannot be replaced. For example, if we were to conduct art class for our students. We could not expect them to colour on their iPad. Surely colour pencils and papers are the best! (2) technology always evolves, however, in a classroom, it is only a complement to make learning more efficient and fun. That's all from me, thank you!

Week 12 For today's tutorial, we were instructed to present our AR project, however only the brainstorming sheet. We all did our brainstorming on Coggle (like how I've mentioned on my previous Reflection post), so we present our Coggle page. After presenting, Dr. Fariza gave us some advice regarding our project. What I have learned through the presentation: 1. Be as clear as you can! As a future teacher, when you are doing your own teaching materials, you should avoid any ambiguity in delivering information. If ambiguity is everywhere, the information becomes less solid and worse, it could be misleading. For instance, in our AR project, in the beginning, we did not provide any audio input on how the phobias name should be pronounced. It could lead people to pronounce it the way they want, although it might wrong (or correct). In additional, the phobias names are very long and quite unfamiliar in daily conversation. Therefore, teachers need to be very clear in delivering something. 2. Prioritize the learners In this matter, I have actually discussed about it in the previous Reflection post, however, it seems like, I was not able to apply it in our AR project. Previously, we were told that to make a good teaching aid, we need to know our learners. Our main objectives should emphasize on learners. However, in our AR project, we somehow emphasized on teachers such as (1) to make teaching more efficient, (2) to help teachers in giving clear pictures for students. We have neglected the learners in some ways. Dr. Fariza suggested us change our objectives, and I have always remembered that teaching aids are for students! That's all from me, thank you! Week 11 For today's tutorial, we started to make our own AR by using Aurasma. We also needed to install Aurasma app in our smart phone so that, we could scan our work later on. Our next assignment was about creating a teaching aid by using Aurasma, which meant, our theme: Augmented Reality teaching aids. After discussing with my group members, we decided to do an AR teaching aid on Phobias. Later, Dr. Fariza asked us to do our brainstorming by using Coggle.
Overall, I have learned so much through this AR teaching aids project. Firstly, I learned about cooperating with others. Although I was the one who proposed the idea of having Phobias as our topic for the AR teaching aids, it was quite irrelevant initially. After my teammates suggested and added more components, finally, the idea came out better. To talk about phobia, it is too broad. But then, my teammates recommended us to discuss about phobias which relate to most of us. Secondly, I learned that nothing is impossible. At first, I hesitated my ability to use video maker because for our AR project, we did not take videos from Youtube, instead, we made our own videos. As how I mentioned earlier (in my previous Reflection post), I do not really fancy online editor. However, I jumped out of my comfort zone and tried to use Animaker. Surprisingly, it was successful!
That's all from me, thank you! Week 10 This week, in our tutorial class, Dr. Fariza has introduced us to AR or known as Augmented Reality. When I heard AR, I immediately thought of robotic stuff or something high-tech, somehow, I was wrong. AR was the simplest and most creative application I have ever seen (for now)! For me, it could be a great material to be used in classroom in the future. I never doubt it! AR is about trigger images that contains a lot of information. It is not an infographic; it is way simpler than a wordy (or full of images) infographic. For AR, you just need to have a trigger image. For example:
For this week lecture, we learned about simple video editor/maker. Unlike Adobe After Effects which requires skills and practices to be able to use it, our lecturer introduced us to several useful video editors/makers. Some of them are Powtoon, Biteable, Moovly and much more. I have tried Powtoon, Biteable and Animaker; what I can say about them is that they are very easy to be used and everything is provided. Almost like Piktochart. It is just Piktochart is made for pictures and photo editing. However, Powtoon and etc. are made for video.
For me, as someone who always use downloaded software, I personally dislike online software such as Powtoon and others (that we learned). But it is strongly my preference, no offence! For me, it lags and my laptop performance is not good either. However, I appreciate so much for learning about these video editing websites and I have tried some of them. Overall, it gives a huge advantage for knowing to use Powtoon and etc. That's all from me, thank you! Week 9
For this week, our tutorial class was postponed and we had tasks (Openlearning) to be done. But for our lecture, we learned something very interesting. Usually, when presenting our final projects, we usually use PowerPoint, right? However, for today's lecture, we were exposed to many websites which offer people to make beautiful and creative presentations. I would like to discuss about my experience in using several websites which give (free) opportunity to make interesting slides. 1. Prezi For me, Prezi is a simple and unique way to present your work. Unlike other presentation styles which use slides, Prezi gives you a huge canvas. We can write anything on that canvas. Almost like, drawing, painting and decorating the canvas in any ways that we like. But then, you must be worried about whether your audience could see or not? Brush it off! Prezi gives you the opportunity to create 'path' in presenting your work by zooming the particular information that you want people to see. This is to make sure that your work can be presented in the best and clearest way! 2. Piktochart Piktochart always has the best pictures and layouts. Let's say I do not have any ideas in making an attractive presentation (slides). Piktochart provides many templates and you just need to change the information here and there. It makes life easier. So, after knowing this, as a future educator, I have no excuse not to make attractive teaching aids for my students because the new generation mostly an active visual learner! That's all from me, thank you! Week 8
For this week, we did not have tutorial class but were given tasks to do. However, in lecture, we were introduced with Media Evaluation. I just knew that when we decided to use media in teaching, we need to evaluate whether the media is useful, meaningful, gives impact and etc. Although we might not be the one who made the media (for example, infographic), we still need to make sure it fits the purpose of the teaching and learning session. Next, I learned that when a teacher uses teaching aids in classroom, it does not end there! The teaching aids or media used must be evaluated whether they are useful for children by making sure that they provide students with certain activities and skills. Other than being absolute informative, teachers need to ask themselves some important questions: 1. Does the teaching aid challenging enough? 2. Does it lead students to have interactions with the teachers and their friends (collaborative)? 3. Does it provide some space for students to reflect on themselves? ... and much more. If the media or teaching aids answer all the questions positively, then, they are highly recommended to be used for students. This is because; the purpose of learning nowadays is not about getting as much information as possible. It is more towards the quality of learning which can produce a student who is able to think creatively and critically. Overall, I've learned something new which correlated to the previous lecture on models to create teaching aids. That's all from me, thank you! |
